PhD Entrance Test
As per the New UGC 2009 guideline, qualifying the PhD Entrance Test is must for Admission in PhD course in any university of India.
Eligibility: Master’s degree in concern subject with at least 55% marks
Exemption from the Entrance Exam: Most of the Government Universities, Deemed Universities and Private universities exempt following candidates from the exam
The students who have qualified UGC(NET)/ UGC-CSIR (JRF) examination/SLET/GATE/GPAT/ICAR/INSPIRE/Rajiv Gandhi Fellowship awardees/teacher-fellowship holders, are exempted from the PhD entrance exam. They can directly apply for the PhD admission.
Entrance Exam Syllabus: Most of the universities take paper on General aptitude and concern subject in which students wants to take admission.
General Aptitude/ Research Aptitude: Below mention topics are included in most of the universities, however, it may change in every university.
(a) Research Aptitude
Definition of Research Problem, Identification of problems of regional and local level, Considerations in selection of problem, Research process, Review of literature, Research objectives, Hypothesis and models, Research scheme/design.
(b) General Awareness
Science, Environment, Current Affairs (Science, Social needs, technology and related),GK
(c) Quantitative Techniques
Elementarily Statistics: Mean, Median, Mode, SD, Variance covariance, Z score, Conceptual hypothesis testing
(d) Concern Subject: Check university website for which you are looking for admission.
Imp Note: Students who are preparing for the PhD entrance exam should look the particular university website for its syllabus.
Stipend/ Fellowship: Student who have qualified UGC(NET)/ UGC-CSIR (JRF) /GATE/GPAT/ICAR/INSPIRE/ can get fellowship for JRF & SRF as per the rules of UGC.
Some of the private & deemed universities also provide their specific fellowship for the students who not qualified above mention exams.
Entrance Test Date: June & Dec of every year for most of the universities.
