National Overseas Scholarship by Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment (MOSJE) Government of India
The Scholarship is awarded for higher studies abroad in specified field of Engineering, Science & Technology to cover cost of fees etc. and educational expenses including maintenance, contingency allowance and travel expenses etc. for various courses at Master’s Degree, Ph. D and Post-Doctoral level.
Normally August/September of every year remains the deadline as per the notification.

Types of MOSJE National Overseas Scholarship

National Overseas Scholarship for Scheduled Castes (SC) | Ph.D. – First class or 55% marks equivalent grade in relevant Masters’ Degree and 2 years work experience in the field. Preference would be given to the experienced candidates, especially to those who are on lien with their existing post and employer.
Masters’ Degree – First class or 55% marks or equivalent grade in relevant Bachelors’ Degree. Preference would be given to the experienced candidates, especially to those who are on lien with their existing post and employer. |
For U.S.A. & Other countries except U.K. The annual maintenance allowance of US Dollars 14,000 has been prescribed for all levels of courses covered under the scheme. Contingency Grant : US Dollars 1375 per annum.
For United Kingdom only The annual maintenance allowance of 9000 Great Britain Pound (GBP) has been prescribed. Contingency Grant : Great Britain Pound 1000 per annum
The prescribed Incidental journey allowance of US $ 17 or its equivalent in Indian Rupees and the prescribed equipment allowance is Rs. 1200/- . Poll Tax, Visa Fee, Fees and Medical Insurance Premium will be actual.
Air Passage from India to the nearest place to the educational institution and back to India, by economy class and shortest route in arrangements with the national carrier, will be provided.
Local Travel – Second or Coach class railway fare from the port of disembarkation to the place of study and back. In case of far flung places not connected by rail, bus fare(s) from the place of residence to the nearest railway station, actual charge of crossing by ferry, air fare to the nearest rail-cum-air station and/or second class railway fare by the shortest route to the port of embarkation and back will be permissible.
For attending interviews by the candidates at the place decided by the Government of India, the second class fare/ordinary class bus fare from the city of their place of residence to the city in which the interviews for selection have been decided by the Government of India will be permissible.
The mode of disbursement of above listed financial assistance will be decided by Government of India and Indian Missions abroad |
Attested copies of the following documents must accompany with application: a) Proof of date of birth, b) Caste certificate from competent authority, c) All degree/diploma certificate with mark sheets, d) Income certificates in the prescribed format and certificate belonging to the category other than Scheduled castes in the prescribed format. |

Postdoctoral, Ph.D., Masters Degree – US $ 8200 per annum Pound Sterling 5200 per annum in U.K. Contingency Grant : A maximum of US $ 550 per annum
Others – Equipment allowance, incidental journey expenses, medical insurance etc
Travel Grant – Economy Class return air passage and shortest route in arrangements with the national carrier, is provided. |
The scheme is advertised in the newspapers giving summarized information about the scheme. The candidates shall after assessing their eligibility, as per the conditions of the scheme, apply to the Ministry in the prescribed application form which will form part of the advertisement. Employed candidates must send their application through the employer. In case of final selection, the employed awardee has to sort out all administrative matters like study leave, salary etc. with his/her employer. |
