Description  :

The COVID-19 pandemic will have adverse socio-economic consequences for women and children, particularly those who belong to disadvantaged categories. Almost 60% of the women worldwide work in an unorganized sector, having less income and are at higher risk of falling into poverty. The current lockdowns have exponentially increased domestic violence and left most of the women struggling to have access to services and necessary support. It is estimated that 40-60 million children could fall into extreme poverty because of the COVID-19 pandemic this year, in addition to the 386 million children who are already living in extreme poverty in 2019. it needs unique skill sets, attitude, and professional knowledge to meaningfully contribute to bettering the lives of children and women, especially those who come from less privileged strata of society or in challenging survival contexts. Thus, all the responses to COVID-19 recovery and development plans must be aligned with the women and the child needs to build an inclusive and safe environment for everyone.
