Description :
Drug repurposing is an important strategy to manage the high cost & poor productivity issues associated with drug research and development. Finding new indication in a different therapeutic area, drug reformulation, recombination and identifying different pharmacological target are some of the key techniques adopted to maximize the benefits. Advances in the field of poly-pharmacology, herbal technology and formulation have further paved the ways for exploring opportunities in drug repurposing. However, challenges related to clinical validation, regulation and intellectual property protection have impacted the success of this strategy.
